Gaited mules for sale for smooth, pleasurable trail riding. Well-started and finished gaited mules for sale. Finished means that our gaited mules for sale have good ground manners, good manners under saddle, and lots of trail experience. It also means that a rider with some experience with gaited horses or some experience with mules can get the mule to gait. Our well-started gaited mules for sale are young mules that have had a minimum of a month of professional training, exhibit a willing and obedient attitude, gait regularly, and have had several trail experiences. To become finished, a well-started mule needs to be ridden easy and often. Our finished gaited mules for sale have Certificates of Registration from AGMA, the American Gaited Mule Association, certifying that they have demonstrated the ability to perform a smooth 4-beat gait.
Gaited mules are produced when jacks (male donkeys) with a lateral gait are bred to gaited mares. Since gait is highly heritable, we breed a strongly gaited mare to a strongly gaited jack, such as our own JB Cadillac Jack. Disposition is also highly heritable. Our gaited mules for sale have dispositions that are people loving, willing, and obedient. That said, riding success on any equine depends on the rider having a level of confidence, competence, and experience either riding horses or mules.
John gets a lot of questions about gaited mules and gaited mule training. If you are interested, you can Listen to John's Perspectives on Gaited Mules on the difference between mules and horses, the difference between gaited horses and gaited mules, mule physical and psychological traits, the training process for gaited mules, and other gaited mule questions and issues.
Gaited mules have a gait that is smooth and distinct from the trot of an ungaited mule. The gaited mule may exhibit a single foot, fox trot, running walk, stepping pace, rack, paso fino gait, or combination gait. Therefore, gaited mules give a ride that is more comfortable than that of an ungaited mule. The ride of a gaited mule is similar to that of a gaited horse such as a Tennessee walking horse, fox trotter, or paso fino horse. For us to represent a mule as gaited, the mule has to do more than a flat foot walk. To represent a mule as gaited, we require the mule to do one or more gaits bare footed or light shod, in addition to a flat foot walk. If you cannot download the video clips of the finished gaited mules for sale, do not hesitate to call or e-mail for a DVD of the ones you would like to see. The DVD's are homemade quality but good enough to show what the gaited mules for sale can do.

Our gaited mules for sale are sold by private treaty. We want a buyer to come work with the gaited mule for sale and ride the gaited mule for a couple days before buying the gaited mule. Our gaited mules for sale have been raised as big pets and we want them to go to humane and loving homes. A prospective buyer needs to understand that maintaining a gaited mule requires a big commitment in time, labor, and money.
The prospective buyer of the gaited mule needs to have had some experience and confidence riding gaited horses or some experience with mules. During the couple days spent riding the gaited mule for sale, John will show and tell how the mule has been trained and help the new owner get with the gaited mule. John's way of training may not be the best or only way to train a gaited mule, but it is the riding method that the gaited mule for sale is familiar with and will likely yield the best results until the new owner is bonded with the gaited mule. He will also show how the gaited mule for sale has been tacked and bitted and share what he has learned about gaited mule temperament and psychology over the past fifteen years. He will help riders who have ridden only western style and who have not ridden gaited equine learn how to ride a gaited mule two handed with mild collection. Our goal is for all parties, including the gaited mule for sale, to be happy with the transaction.
We are a mom/pop operation (actually a grandma/grandpa operation) located in the northeast corner of Missouri, six miles east of Kirksville. We raise and train sensible gaited trail mules. We do not represent a gaited mule that we would not want to ride. We require that riders sign a liability release and wear a riding helmet during the trial ride of the gaited mules for sale because riding even the best equine has inherent risks. Our gaited mules for sale will come to the new owner in good health, with current de-worming, current vaccinations, and current dentistry.
Testimonials
To give you an idea of our selling process, please read Karen's description of buying Buttercup. Karen accurately describes the transition time that a mule needs to bond with a new person, and the time it takes for a new rider to become confident in the new mule and get the best gait from the new gaited mule.
Norman of Washington state describes his experience with Polly, a Paso Fino molly mule we raised out of our mare Chiquita Linda de Copa.
