A gaited jack bred to a gaited mare produces a gaited mule.  Gaited jack JB Cadillac is one of the best gaited jacks we have seen in person or on film.  We had never intended to keep a jack, but when we saw gaited jack JB Cadillac at the Shelbyville Mule Celebration in July '07, we had to have him.  A young man was riding him in the practice arena and JB's gait was comparable to that of the gaited mules in the practice arena.  Watch Gaited Jack JB Cadillac gait.

We have had several inquiries about shipping semen from JB Cadillac.  We acquired JB just last July and have not used him yet for either live cover or collection.  We plan to breed our mares to him this year and a few mares that are within driving distance.  We do not have mare care facilities.  If JB cooperates, we will also ship semen.  Let us know if you are interested and we will keep you informed.

Gaited mules are produced when jacks (male donkeys) that show gait are bred to gaited mares.  Gaited mules have a gait that is smooth and distinct from the trot of an ungaited mule.  Therefore, gaited mules give a ride that is more comfortable than that of an ungaited mule.  A gaited mare bred to a gaited jack will likely produce a gaited mule.  The American Gaited Mule Association will register a mule produced from an AGMA registered jack and a registered mare without requiring a demonstration of gait video.  JB Cadillac Jack has AGMA registration, which certifies that he is gaited.

In a lateral gait the legs on each side move forward together with the rear leg hitting before the front leg.  The flat foot walk, running walk, rack, and paso gait are lateral gaits.  The foxtrot is a smooth diagonal gait, which means that the front leg on one side moves with the back leg on the other side with the front leg hitting before the rear leg.  Our gaited jack JB Cadillac Jack does a flat walk, running walk, rack, and foxtrot depending on the terrain and his speed.

Gaited Jack JB Cadillac has excellent conformation and good feet.  He is 14-1 with straight legs and good sized feet, which is important since mules tend to have really small feet for their size.  His back legs set in a little, which we have noticed is indicative of a gaited jack.  Gaited Jack JB Cadillac has a pretty head and long ears.

JB Cadillac is gentle; however, every jack can be dangerous and has to be watched, especially around mares.  Gaited Jack JB Cadillac lives in his own paddock with a south facing shelter, not locked in a stall in a dark barn.  He has plenty of room to move around and enjoy the sunshine.

Next spring we will breed Gaited Jack JB Cadillac to our Gaited Jenny Ruth and anxiously wait the year-long gestation period for a gaited donkey baby.
